• Preheat H13 tool steel to 1500°F (816°C)
• Increase the temperature to 1850°F (1010°C) and hold for 15–40 minutes
• Air-quench the steel

• Temper H13 steel immediately after quenching
• Temper at a temperature between 1000–1150°F (538–621°C)
• Hold the steel at the tempering temperature for 1 hour per inch of thickness
• Let it cool normally for 2 hours
